Earlier, my friend and I were having a discussion about how scared we are of today’s youth. Kids will never know what good music is. They will never know what respect is. Nor discipline. I can’t even begin to imagine where the world is going with all of this. Parents aren’t doing their job like they used to. Something needs to happen and it needs to happen fast because this world is going to spin out of control real soon if it doesn’t.
Save us from ignorance, please.
It is just like the parents who leave their kids in random toy stores while they shop at the extensive mall said store is attached to…I have called security on more than one occasion. One lady, another mother, pressed charges against a skank who let their kids loose in the mall (age 5 or so, with limited English abilities.)
If I had a dollar for every time it happened, I could quit that job…

the definition of ‘good’ music will always change. it is a cyclical thing. as people experiment, new music comes along and it becomes the ‘now’. many in years past may say, bjork or even beck may be too weird for them, but now, it’s very common to have artists influence by both these people…the question in my mind is, as we grow older, do we become stuck in the same music that we had grown up with? food for thought…

Your post speaks more to your sampling than it does to kids. I suppose you mean younger people, but I’m 60, so anyone under 50 is theorhetically a kid to me.
Kids today aren’t much different from kids in my day. They face a lot of more serious issues and choices than we did. I wonder if we’ve given them good enough tools to survive creatively into the next century.
But your lament is as old as humans. Even Socrates complained about the younger generation not appreciating the challenges it faced.
Remember these lyrics from Bye Bye Birdie, “what’s the matter with kids today? why can’t they be like we were, perfect in every way. what’s the matter with kids today!”
